Due to jump as Caulfield Race 9 at 5:40pm (AEST), this season’s $3 million Group 1 BMW Caulfield Cup (2400m) features a full 18 starters plus four emergencies awaiting early scratchings to gain a run in the world’s richest mile and a half handicap.

Despite the size of the Caulfield Cup field, only three runners currently figure under $10 for the win in the latest Caulfield Cup odds at Ladbrokes.com.au who are offering an incredible Best Tote or SP + 20% on the race.

Leading the markets at $4.60 is the New Zealand-trained four-year-old Mongolian Khan who boasts an elite level win over the distance having won Sydney’s ATC Derby as a three-year-old in the autumn.

Opie Bosson has the ride on the progressive Murray Baker-trained Holy Roman Emperor four-year-old who comes off a third to Cox Plate hope Criterion in the Group 1 Caulfield Stakes (2000m) last Saturday.

The last Caulfield Cup winner to come out of the Caulfield Stakes though was back in 2003 with Mummify (2nd).

The next best in Caulfield Cup betting are the John O’Shea-trained ATC Derby runner-up Hauraki ($9) who also ran second last time out in the Group 3 Craven Plate (2000m) in Sydney and Ciaron Maher’s Turnbull Stakes third placed mare Set Square ($9.50) who is drawn wide in gate 16 but gets in on just 51kg.

So will the first three in betting run this year’s Caulfield Cup trifecta or is there value tipping an upset from the likes of Japan’s Fame Game ($10) who heads towards the Melbourne Cup on the first Tuesday of November, the British raider Snow Sky ($11) who four-time Caulfield Cup winning hoop Damien Oliver partners this weekend or last year’s Caulfield Cup runner-up Rising Romance ($11) looking to go one better 12 months on?
